You expect nothing less than perfection from yourself, which only causes you daily stress.

About being a Perfectionist
01 What is a perfectionist
A perfectionist is someone who typically has excessively high standards and is overly critical of themself. It doesn’t matter how well you’ve done something, it can always be done better. You have a difficult time feeling fulfilled with anything in your life. You’re constantly worried someone is going to find you out and therefore, struggle with feeling like an imposter. Sometimes your perfectionism makes you unable to make a decision or you procrastinate because you need it to be perfect from the start.
02 Do you find yourself saying
If I’m perfect, I will be…(I’ll get a raise or find love)
I’ll never be good enough
I won’t be able to get what I want unless I’m perfect
If I make a mistake, I’'ll…(get fired or get dumped)
I’m worthless
I need to go to the gym more, so my body looks perfect.
There are numerous thoughts on where perfectionism comes from but it’s a complicated answer because we are all different people with different life experiences including culture, race, wealth, family dynamics and personality traits just to name a few. Many suggest perfectionist come from being a “type A” personality. Others believe perfectionists stem from childhood trauma and are looking for validation through achievements.
No matter the reason, we can figure out where your perfectionism comes from together. You can learn work through perfectionism and make it a thing of the past.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
There are many reasons why perfectionism is bad for your mental and physical health but I will namd just a few of them.
Perfectionist tend to overthink everything, even the smallest interactions with others. This can cause major strain on your relationships. It can also cause you to second guess everything.
It can cause physical pain to the perfectionist. Including but not limited to stomach pain like nausea, stomach cramps, constipation or diarrhea.
Procrastination, now this might seem counterintuitive but fear of needing to be perfect can incapacitate a person and cause them to wait until the last minute. Procrastinating gives them a reason why they did not do well on a project if that ends up being the case. However, procrastination only adds more stress and anxiety to an already stressed and anxious perfectionist.
